Land of Oak & Iron are excited to host the next of our regular ‘Meet the Maker‘ events at the Heritage Centre in Winlaton Mill.  Our next Meet the Maker is with Silversmith Gem Bainbridge.

Gem is the maker and creator behind ‘JewelGemJewellery’ and is based not far from the Heritage Centre in Blaydon-on-Tyne in the North East.

“I started making jewellery a couple of years ago and to be honest I did not think I would be where I am today. I am a self taught silversmith and love the fact I can make things, not only that I am extremely proud of, but what my customers can keep for a lifetime.

I discovered sea glass around the same time as I started making jewellery. This is my favourite part of making jewellery – I enjoy searching for sea glass usually at the beautiful beach of Seaham in County Durham.

I make my jewellery from my spare bedroom which has now turned into my studio, it is my happy place where I can create special pieces.”

Come along to the Heritage Centre on Saturday 2nd April 10am – 4pm to meet Gem in person, buy some of her beautiful jewellery or maybe even commission her for a bespoke piece of jewellery.

Some of Gemma’s jewellery is also available to purchase for a limited period in the Heritage Centre shop, each piece is unique and individually designed.

‘Meet the Maker’ will be outside under cover of the gazebo unless the weather is cold/rainy – in which case it will be situated in the foyer area inside the Heritage Centre.
