The Land of Oak & Iron

Land of Oak & Iron launch event Sunday 10th July

Have a go at rapper dancing, try your hand at willow weaving, dance to live music! All this and much more will be on offer at the Land of Oak & Iron free family event on Sunday 10th July from 1 – 4pm at Blaydon Youth and Community Centre and the adjacent Shibdon Pond.

The event will showcase everything that this £3.4 million Landscape Partnership programme will encompass over the next four years, with plenty of hands on activities for people of all ages. There will be a wide range of organisations with information about their projects and details of how to become involved, including free training courses and many different volunteering opportunities. The free activities will include exploring the local wildlife, pond dipping, face painting, arts and crafts and many more!

The official activity will begin at 2pm with an introduction by John Rundle, the Chairman of Land of Oak & Iron. This will be followed by a rapper dancing demonstration by the High Spen Pink Diamonds Rapper Sword Dance Team and a set from local singer / song writer Gareth Davies-Jones who will be singing songs from his album ‘The Seam’, a Mining Institute project, supported by Prudhoe High School Community Choir and Felling Brass Band.

There will be refreshments on sale at the event, with a free limited edition Land of Oak & Iron biscuit and local people are encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport to reach the event if possible, as there will be limited parking at the centre.
