Join Living Woods North East for their Woodland Networking Day at Garesfield Golf Club.
We will welcome Burt Hunter, a professional hedgelayer and full of hedge knowledge and wisdom, to talk to us about the history of hedges, management techniques and styles, tools for the job, why we may or may not want to include hedge in our woodlands…hedges as woodland connective corridors, woodland edges and shelter belts… he will be bringing along some of his tools for us to admire too.
We will be holding the event at Garesfield Golf Club, where there is an ancient hedgerow that we can take a look at with Burt’s perspective.
We will take a stroll out to Millers Wood on the Golf Club site, where Rachel Penn – Woodland Trust’s Outreach Advisor, will take us through all aspects of a completing a Woodland Assessment. We will say hello to Peter Downes and his volunteers, where they are reviving Phoenix and Sleeping Oaks in a previously unmanaged pine plantation as part of the Living Woods Rekindle project.
Also, David Adams of UK Squirrel Accord will talk to us about his role in a new and exciting project.
This will be of interest to a wide range of audiences, especially those keen on looking to incorporate hedges into their woodland management schemes.
There is a bar at the golf club which serves the teas and coffees, the first of which will be free. We will provide biscuits as usual. There may also be soup and a roll available at a cost – all to be confirmed via e-mail close to the date… and you are welcome to bring your own packed lunch.
Registration and refreshments from 9.30am with the event starting at 10am.
There is plenty of parking is onsite. The ticket price of £12 includes VAT.
