Event Details

Tales from the Land of Oak & Iron are locally written stories relating to two local heritage sites; Derwentcote Steel Furnace and Chopwell Wood.

These wonderful stories were written to help engage and introduce children to new themes such as; natural heritage, industrial heritage and some of the different job roles that local workers and children did in the past.  The stories were commissioned by Land of Oak & Iron and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Graham Blake created the illustrations and the stories were written by Pat Renton.

We hope to receive funding to have the full stories and all the illustrations printed as colourful books for children to enjoy – until then, take a look at some of the illustrations and excepts from the stories on display in our Inside Out Gallery at the Heritage Centre.
