Event Details

On 2nd June 2022, we will celebrate another unique milestone in our history, Her Majesty The Queen’s 70th year as our Monarch and Head of the Commonwealth – her Platinum Jubilee. It is a feat no previous monarch has achieved.

More than 1,500 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories, and one in each of the capital cities of Commonwealth countries in recognition of The Queen’s long and selfless service.

The Jubilee Beacons will provide an opportunity for communities and people to come together to celebrate this historic milestone. The four days of celebrations (Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June) will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen’s 70 years of service.

This will be the first time a British monarch has marked a Platinum Jubilee, 70 years as Sovereign. In September 2015, The Queen overtook Queen Victoria as the longest reigning monarch.

Land of Oak & Iron Heritage Centre are proud to be part of the official celebrations and hosting one of the official Jubilee Beacons.

Our evening begins at 6pm with refreshments available from Lucca Pizza & Scoops n Smiles. Our café will also be serving hot, cold and alcoholic drinks along with cake, sweet and savoury treats.

Entertainment starts at 6.30pm with dance performances from the young dancers of Sylvia Dobson Dance School.

7pm – 9.45pm various performances from Northumbrian Piper Theus De’Ath and The Caedmon Choir.

9.35pm Theus will be playing the official Jubilee tune ‘Diu Regnare’ and Caedmon Choir singing ‘A Life Lived with Grace’ at 9.45pm, joining in with pipers and choirs across the UK and the Commonwealth with this official musical tribute to The Queen.

9.45pm Beacon lighting by local MP Liz Twist and ‘The Thirty Before 30’ group.

10pm we are joined by singers Chris Wain and Julie Pendleton who will close the evening after this historic event with some communal singing from their much loved Last Night of the Proms finale!  Bring your flags and your singing voices!

No need to book, just turn up and enjoy the celebrations – the perfect opportunity to bring people together for Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee! Why not dress up in costume or come in red, white and blue!

We have indoor and outdoor seating, but these are limited so you may wish to bring along your own camp chairs/picnic blankets. Please note, seating in the courtyard, bench and planting area is reserved for customers of our café and Lucca Pizza – picnics are welcome on the meadow area nearby.

Please use our parking on site and at Derwenthaugh and Spa Well carparks a short walk away. (Please be considerate to our neighbours in nearby residential areas).

Why not enjoy a healthy walk or cycle ride to get here – it’s a lovely route through Derwenthaugh Park and we have cycle racks on site.
