Event Details

Summer is a great time to enjoy the delights of birdwatching in the lower Derwent Valley.

Start your day off with local ornithologist Michael Turner on the next of our popular guided bird walks through this rich and diverse landscape –  Michael will help you identify the many different bird species by sight and sound as we work our way through the seasons.

On returning to the Heritage Centre why not treat yourself to brunch or a drink from our café as you chat about the birds spotted on your walk.

Following the walk, Michael will be signing copied of his new book ‘A History of Birds in the Derwent Valley’ – an eclectic compilation of texts and gleanings from Michael. From the 19th century to post-covid it is a personal look at some of the people, books and events that have inspired the author’

Leaving from the Heritage Centre, the walk will be on regular footpaths with varying gradients.

Please bring binoculars if you have them and dress appropriately for the weather.

Limited places to allow for social distancing. Sorry no dogs.

Tickets £9.50 per person
