Event Details

Land of Oak & Iron are excited to host the next of our regular ‘Meet the Maker‘ events at the Heritage Centre in Winlaton Mill.  Our next Meet the Maker is with creative friends Ann Ostle and Angela Elliott.

Anne Ostle is a self taught local artist based at her home studio in Winlaton, Tyne and Wear.  She is a member of a local art group and has learnt a great deal being a part of this friendly group.

“My paintings are in oils on canvas, but I also love trying other mediums to create many themes and different styles. I am an unknown in the world of art, but I am very passionate about the paintings I create.  As I progressed in my painting practice, I realised how much I loved it and would now class myself as a ‘photorealism artist’. I love to challenge myself and will attempt any subject, i.e. animals, landscapes, seascapes, pet portraits, etc. I am now looking forward to sharing my work on a wider scale in the hope that my art work brings as much pleasure to other people as it brings to myself.”

As a child Angela Elliott loved drawing and creating ‘fashions’ and spent her pocket money on coloured pencils purchasing a certain brand of pencil for ‘The School Furnishing Shop’.

“At school art was my favourite and best subject. After leaving school, like most people I didn’t continue my art until in 1976 I joined Winlaton Art Club with a friend. It was then that I started oil painting becoming more and more enthusiastic as the years went on. Occasionally I have tried my hand at other mediums e.g. watercolours, pastels and acrylics, but oils have always been my passion. Over the last few years (during lockdown) it was great to have a hobby which kept me occupied during the long days.”

Meet the Maker shows just a small example of Angela’s work but she hopes it may encourage other people to take up this rewarding past time.

Come along to the Heritage Centre on Saturday 10th June, 10am – 4pm to meet Ann and Angela.

Some of Ann’s and Angela’s original artworks are also available to purchase for a limited period in the Heritage Centre shop for the 2 weeks running up to her in person event day.

‘Meet the Maker’ will be outside under cover of the gazebo unless the weather is cold/rainy – in which case it will be situated in the foyer area inside the Heritage Centre.
