Come and meet Sam Collon at the Heritage Centre for the next of our fortnightly ‘Meet the Maker’ events.

“In this day and age, it is always good to be able to get back to basics sometimes and there’s nothing more basic than clay! I have always been practical and creative so discovering pottery a few years ago was a revelation. I loved it instantly. I love the process of throwing on the wheel, communicating with the clay and learning its limitations (and mine).

I use mainly white stoneware, which is glazed and fired to cone six in my electric kiln, so it is robust and safe to use daily. I am very fortunate to have my studio in my ‘Shack’ at the bottom of the garden, hidden away in the trees often just with chickens for company. I live near Shotley Bridge so am surrounded by beautiful countryside and friendly people – who could ask for more!”
