Event Details

Land of Oak & Iron are excited to host the next of our regular ‘Meet the Maker events at the Heritage Centre in Winlaton Mill.  Our next Meet the Maker is with Bullen Cards.

A small family business established by renowned equestrian artist and children’s book illustrator, Anne Bullen (1912–1963), Bullen Cards was re-launched in March 2015 under the direction of Anne’s Great-Grandson, artist, Jack Bullen.

Anne was matriarch of the well-known eventing family, and founder of the famous Catherston Stud. Three of her six children were Olympians going to six Olympic Games between them. One, Jane Loriston-Clarke, won Team Gold in Eventing in Mexico City 1968.

Anne’s depictions of horses and ponies capture the incredible movement and form of these magnificent creatures to which she was so familiar.  Her illustrative work can be remembered in the much-loved equestrian novels by authors such as the Pullein-Thomson sisters, Monica Edwards and Marjorie E. Procter.

Following the artist’s tragic death at only 51 years of age, the small family company was passed to her Daughter-in-Law, Jill Bullen, married to Anne’s eldest son, Anthony. It is their Grandson, Jack, and his family who now ‘take the reins’ after fifty happy years in Jill’s care.

Continuing to introduce exclusive new images to the Eventing, Native Breeds, Driving and Hunt ranges, Bullen Cards supplies high quality occasion, note cards and stationery featuring Anne’s striking artwork. With the original drawings inherited from the artist herself, Bullen Cards also provides seasonal limited edition prints.

Please come along to this Meet the Maker event, where you can buy from a range of limited edition prints, cards and homeware gifts.

Bullen Cards are also available to purchase for a limited period in the Heritage Centre shop.

‘Meet the Maker’ will be outside under cover of the gazebo unless the weather is cold/rainy – in which case it will be situated inside the Heritage Centre.
