Event Details

Land of Oak & Iron are excited to host the next of our regular ‘Meet the Maker events at the Heritage Centre in Winlaton Mill.  Our next Meet the Maker is with Powder Butterfly.

Corinne (an artist, designer and mum of two) is the founder of Powder Butterfly; a design studio that creates a range of British contemporary homeware gifts. Currently, she has a studio in Ouseburn Valley at BBox Studios, next to the Biscuit Factory Gallery.

Corinne was born in London but moved to the North-East 21 years ago. After studying photography at Northumbria University and then at Sunderland University, she has now developed wonderful collections, mixing new technology with artisan techniques, to create products that share her love of different locations in the British Isles.

The first product she created, in 2012, was her Flying Angel tea towel, which celebrates the Angel of the North. Having moved to Newcastle the same year the angel was built (1998), she felt it was fitting to begin with that particular landmark. This item was so popular that she created a whole Newcastle Collection, adding the iconic Tyne Bridge, The Sage Gateshead, The Baltic Flour Mill and the Millennium Bridge to her distinctive range of designs.

The next collection she developed was London, her hometown. Having moved around Britain, she understood that people often have connections and affinities with different cities and places. This led to her exploring her hometown through the iconic architecture and tourist attractions of the capital.

Corinne has now developed a Whitley Bay, York, Durham & Farne Island (Puffins) collections too.

Corinne’s products of local places and their architecture are highly intricate and full of detail!  All her products are printed and produced either locally or in England using quality materials, helping to support local businesses – for example her prints are from Newcastle, cards and calendars from Blaydon and ceramics from the potteries in Stoke on Trent.

Please come along to Corinne’s Meet the Maker event, where you can buy a wide range of her illustrations, cards and homeware gifts.

Saturday 10th December, 10am – 4pm

Corinne’s products are also available to purchase for a limited period in the Heritage Centre shop.

‘Meet the Maker’ will be outside under cover of the gazebo unless the weather is cold/rainy – in which case it will be situated inside the Heritage Centre.
