Land of Oak & Iron are excited to host the next of our new ‘Meet the Maker events at the Heritage Centre.

Natalie Yates is a glass artist based in Rowlands Gill, she leads glass fusion workshops and has some of her stunning work for sale in café shrub.

Come and meet Nat in our gazebo outside the Heritage Centre in Winlaton Mill – just drop by anytime between 10am and 4pm to say hello.

Nat will be available to chat about how she creates her glass artworks – you can also purchase some of her original glass pieces, find out about her workshops or why not commission Natalie to create something bespoke and special.

“Glass is the most extraordinary medium for an artist”.

Nat Yates started her fused glass journey over fifteen years ago at the National Glass Centre where she took evening classes to support elements of her degree at Newcastle University.

Nat continued working with glass as a hobby and finally decided to get her own kiln just over three years ago with the help of a good friend. That is where Nat’s real adventure really began, and over the last three years she has strived to improve her work, experimenting, succeeding and often failing but always wanting to learn more and more about this technical and magical material.

In the last year Nat has concentrated her work inspired by the local area, both in nature inspired by living so close to beautiful countryside, and also in landmarks which represent the North East. In order to realise her vision, she has had to learn new techniques in drawing, printmaking and photography which has been an experience in itself! Nat will continue to improve her work and has recently been learning from international glass masters which will be reflected in the evolving style and quality of her work.
