A bit more about the musicians:
Bookends are made up of Brenda and Andy Kyle who have been writing and performing songs together for about 11 years. “It started as a bit of fun, but it’s got into the blood now! We would class our music as contemporary/indie folk with a twist.”
Many of Bookend’s songs have been inspired by family, friends, personal experience and the North East places that they love … and indeed reference to the beautiful Antrim coast where Andy was brought up.
“We enjoy creating sweet melodies and interesting harmonies, sometimes with a sprinkle of funny bones dust! We have had the pleasure of participating in workshops with Boo Hewerdine, Edwina Hayes, Karine Polwart and Stu Hannah (of Megson) and hope some of their influences have rubbed off on us!“
Bookends will be joined by their musical friend John Brindle a local acoustic singer songwriter based in Durham.
“I’ve been a music enthusiast for most of my life; drawing inspiration from the singer songwriter movement of the 1970s. Beautiful melodies, and intelligent lyrics, are the ingredients that attract me.
I’ve been fortunate to perform live on many occasions; some of my highlights include evenings at the Sage, Gateshead and Gala Theatre, Durham and have recorded five solo projects so far; my latest is Following The River, which I completed in 2021. I’m proud of the songs on the new CD and keen for the opportunity to play live again.
When I’m not writing songs, or recording, I teach guitar to school children and adults. I’ve also had freelance articles published by music magazines like
Maverick, Mojo and The Living Tradition.
My main passion, though, is performing music. If I can connect with someone, entertain and make them think, then I hope I’m getting something right”.
ItsAcoustica are North-East based duo Andy Higgins (guitar and vocals) and Cath Higgins (violin, accordion, guitar and vocals). Andy and Cath have released 4 CDs of original material, with their most recent offering, “Red Sky”, garnering impressive reviews in a number of national magazines.
Their concerts include their distinctive original contemporary folk songs alongside well-crafted arrangements of songs by renowned Americana artists such as Darrell Scott, Steve Earle and Tim O’Brien – all delivered with an engaging warmth and quirky humour. With the recent addition of Steve Wilson on bass adding further subtleties to their sound, ItsAcoustica will be out and about during 2022 playing shows at a town near you!
