Meet volunteers from around Land of Oak & Iron, whilst discovering the fantastic Derwentcote Steel Furnace site.
The day will include a number of different activities including scythe training, path clearance, meadow management and an opportunity to explore the whole site. At 2.30pm there will be an opportunity to go inside the furnace and hear from local historians about the steel making processes that were undertaken here.
The scythe training will include scythe sharpening, maintenance and use and is limited to 12 people. To guarantee your place please book in advance by contacting Peter.
All tools, equipment and gloves will be provided as well as tea and coffee; please wear stout footwear and suitable clothing for outdoors and bring a packed lunch and a drink. You may wish to bring waterproofs or sun cream and a hat, depending on the weather.
Come along and learn new skills, make friends and have fun whilst carrying out a programme of practical woodland and access tasks.
To book onto the scythe training or to find the volunteers on the day, please call Peter on 07484 093411.
