If you’ve ever wondered how the old waggonways were constructed, now’s your chance to find out!  Join professionals from the Archaeological Practice, who will show you exactly how and what to do, no previous experience is necessary.

A small scale archaeological excavation and recording on part of the Western Way Waggonway, to include excavation across the course of the waggonway to check for its survival, revealing and recording of wayside walls and excavation across associated boundary ditches to investigate and record their character and recover any associated artifacts.

Please wear suitable clothes and footwear for outdoor activity at this time of year; bring a packed lunch and a drink.

Booking is essential, please contact the Archaeological Practice stating which day(s) you would be interested in attending. Further details of meeting places, times and the precise nature of work to be undertaken will be sent out within a week of the start date.
