From L-R: Geoff Marshall & Val Scully, Land of Oak & Iron volunteers; Hugh Flinn, Dr William Lancaster, Mark Flinn, Karen Daglish, Land of Oak & Iron

Local heroes were celebrated last night at our Men of Iron official book launch.

Dr William Lancaster gave a very informative talk about Crowley’s Ironworks and it’s historical importance of national and international significance. We learnt about the original author of Men of Iron, Professor Michael Flinn who published it nearly 50 years ago, as well as other historians who researched Crowley’s.

The evening event which was held at the Lit & Phil in Newcastle, attracted 85 people including special guests Mark and Hugh Flinn, Professor Flinn’s sons.

Men of Iron is available to buy at café shrub in our Heritage Centre at Winlaton Mill.
