Legacy Group Looks to the Future

The Land of Oak & Iron needs you! This beautiful part of the north east is host to areas of great industrial importance that once shaped our landscape, as well as being home to woodlands, wetlands and other natural habitats that are important to the environment.

At The Land of Oak & Iron, we’re preserving this rich and diverse area, but we can’t do it alone. So much so, we’re asking you to come along to our Legacy Group meeting to find out more about how you can get involved to help protect and preserve The Land of Oak & Iron for many years to come.

You’ll also be one of the first people to view our new film. This 10-minute film highlights our areas cultural heritage as well as the wonderful industrial and natural heritage, woodland and wildlife that is around for all to see. We’d like to thank the Consett Salvation Army Corps Band and Whickham & Swalwell Community Music for contributing to the soundtrack and many others from right across the area for their photos.

We have 500 years of authentic heritage, history, heroes and habitat. This Legacy Group is all about helping people to discover it, but also protect it. The Legacy Group will support the Land of Oak & Iron as it conserves, enhances and celebrates the area’s unique combination of natural, industrial and cultural heritage.
