Find out what’s been happening recently

There are so many things happening in the Land of Oak & Iron at the moment, our partners are delivering a huge variety of exciting projects and planning so much more.

Our regular Woodland Volunteer Teams have been as busy as ever, this week they welcomed volunteers from NHS Business Services Authority who braved the wet weather and helped to build footpaths in the Plantation at Burnopfield.  Contact us if you would like to arrange a team volunteering day.

Durham Wildlife Trust continue to deliver free wildlife and geology training courses, find out the latest dates and how to book on our Whats On page.  This summer we also have family friendly courses suitable for the younger ones so come along and help inspire the future generation of ecologists.

In Hamsterley, Durham County Council have recently completed a scheme surfacing the path which leads to the foot bridge across the river Derwent to Blackhall Mill, making it easier to walk from County Durham into Gateshead.  Milkwellburn Wood Nature Reserve is just across the bridge from Hamsterley and offers lots of walking routes, or head down stream towards Derwentcote steel furnace and complete a circular walk back along the Derwent Walk.
