A good night out in Chopwell
My name is Philippa and I’m a researcher at Newcastle University, I’m working with Land of Oak & Iron on a project about memories of the local landscape. I have been interviewing people in Chopwell about their memories of the village and have loved hearing about the social life of the village over the years. I’m putting together a display about some of the favourite pubs, clubs, cinemas, dancehalls or any other places people enjoyed going out and meeting up in the village and I would love to hear your stories.
If you have any photos to share that would also be great! Photos of places like this one of the Chopwell Hotel would be good, but also photos of people would be really interesting to see – these photos of nights out in the Hotel and the Top Club were shared by Helen Neasham.
Read more about the project, see pictures and share memories on the Facebook page.
The exhibition will be on as part of Heritage Open Days in Chopwell Community Centre on Sunday 22 September, 11am to 3pm. Hope to see you there!
